Periodontal Treatment Options

At Periodontal Health Center, our goal is to create a personalized treatment plan that empowers you to keep your natural smile for a lifetime, or restore damaged teeth or gums.

We’ll help you understand your condition and treatment options, so you can achieve healthy gums, a healthy mouth and healthy body!

Gum Disease Treatment

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, gingivitis, and periodontitis in the later stages, is a bacterial infection of the gum tissues. Periodontal disease is the most common cause of tooth loss in adults!

Our goal is to help you maintain your natural teeth for life, by treating gum disease before it causes serious damage to your gums, teeth and jaws.

In its earliest stage, gum disease may be treated with a scaling and root planing treatment. In advanced stages of gum disease, treatment may include LANAP laser treatment or surgery.

Scaling & Root Planing

The scaling and root planing procedure is your first line of defense against gum disease. A non-surgical gum disease treatment, scaling and root planing is a deep cleaning procedure that involves cleaning the gums and tooth roots to remove bacteria and encourage healthy gums to reattach to teeth.

Scaling and root planing can be the only treatment needed for gum disease, but it depends on how deep the measurements are, how much bleeding and how much bone loss there is.

Periodontal Maintenance

For patients who had gum disease and underwent a scaling and root planing treatment, we provide periodontal maintenance therapy to continue monitoring the disease and preventing it from progressing.

Our goal is to preserve and maintain as much healthy bone and gum tissue as possible, in order to keep you from requiring additional therapy. Maintenance is ongoing and occurs every three to six months, depending on your personalized treatment plan.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are known as the gold standard for tooth replacement. More than any other tooth replacement solution, dental implants are almost identical to natural teeth in terms of appearance, function, durability and longevity.

Restore your smile, regain your confidence, and eat your favorite foods again. Enjoy a beautiful, healthy smile with dental implants.

BOTOX®

BOTOX isn’t just for wrinkles! BOTOX therapy with our experienced team can not only reduce or eliminate wrinkles, but treat a “gummy smile”, treat TMJ syndrome, treat migraines, and prevent you from clenching and grinding your teeth to ultimately prevent you from wearing down your teeth.

LANAP® Laser Treatment

For severe stages of gum disease, LANAP therapy is a minimally-invasive treatment that uses an advanced laser to target the source of bacteria and diseased gum tissue with unparalleled precision.

With advanced LANAP therapy, no healthy tissue is removed, and we can prevent gum recession that might otherwise occur. The surgical wound is tiny, and no sutures are needed.

Plastic Surgery

Periodontal plastic surgery procedures serve to enhance both the appearance and function of the gums, by strengthening gum tissue that is thin or weak, reducing gum recession and easing related symptoms (like tooth sensitivity.)

These procedures involve gum grafts (autogenous gingival grafts and connective tissue grafts) to replace lost tissue in the gums, as well as esthetic crown lengthening to reduce excessive gum tissue display (often called a “gummy smile”.)

Pocket Reduction Surgery

Flap and osseous surgery (pocket reduction surgery) is a treatment used to reduce the depth of existing pockets in the gums. These pockets develop due to bacteria and inflammation associated with advanced periodontal disease.

When pockets are too deep, the gums and teeth cannot be cleaned sufficiently through normal brushing and flossing. Through pocket reduction surgery, we eliminate disease-causing bacteria, reduce pockets to minimize areas where bacteria can grow, and ultimately prevent gum disease and bone loss from progressing.

Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation

In cases of receding gums, pinhole gum rejuvenation can help restore the gums with virtually no pain, no bleeding and rapid results. With this treatment, we create tiny holes in the gum tissue to release the gums, stretch them over the exposed root surfaces and fill in any gaps.

Gum rejuvenation is a necessary treatment to prevent complications (like teeth sensitivity, bone loss and tooth loss) that come with untreated gum recession. Our advanced pinhole technique ensures the least discomfort for you!

Periodontal Regenerative Surgery

In advanced stages of gum disease, bone loss occurs. Periodontal regenerative surgery techniques are used to restore the bone that has deteriorated, by promoting regeneration of the bone and ligament fibers.

Regenerative surgery, through bone grafts and tissue engineering, may be necessary to strengthen the jaw bone sufficiently for dental implants to be placed.

Periodontal Surgery for Orthodontics

For patients who have excessive gum tissue or misshapen/misaligned teeth, periodontal surgery with canine exposure or tooth extractions can be performed to prepare teeth for braces or Invisalign.

Whatever your needs may be, we can work with your orthodontist to ensure that you experience the healthiest smile possible!

Occlusal Therapy

With a healthy bite (occlusion), bite force is evenly distributed among all teeth. With an unhealthy bite, where excessive pressure is placed on any given tooth or teeth, these uneven forces can cause tooth loosening and contribute to bone loss.

Through occlusal therapy, we can create an even distribution of bite forces, allowing the bone and ligament to heal properly.
